Box Elder County is the northwest corner of Utah, bordering Nevada and Idaho. Brigham City is the county seat and the largest city, sitting at the base of the Wellsville Mountains at the mouth of Box Elder Canyon.
The main cities are along the Wasatch Front in the southeast part of the county. Out west it's wide-open desert, and the Great Salt Lake fills the southeast corner. The county is named for the box elder trees that grow all over the area.
